“This is a really spectacular adventure that takes our guests from the city into a true native experience. It’s close enough to be accessible in one day and yet it takes you back in time”, says Henry Josephs, our director of operations at Panama Excursions. Guests are taken on a (motorized) dugout canoe up the Chagres River to an authentic Embera/Wounaan native village. “This is not a village set up for tourists”, says Josephs. “This is their home and we are their guests.” A typical Panama shore tour would include a traditional greeting, Wounaan basket demonstration, music and a meal of locally available produce and fish.
The Embera and Wounaan tribes are considered the guardians of the rainforest. They have lived in their traditional territories in the Darién forest region between Panama and Colombia for thousands of years. This is a unique experience.
